Wild Carrot AKA Queen Anne's Lace is flowering. This species often - but not always - has a deep purple central floret.
One of the three varieties of Thimbleweed has opened its greenish petal-like sepals. The elongated central fruit heads of this plant supposedly resemble thimbles.
Basswood trees are flowering. The rather fragrant flowers, and eventually the fruit, hang from the center of narrow leaflike bracts. Come winter the winglike bracts will ride the winds, dispersing the tree's clusters of small green nutlets.
And, Black Alder AKA Winterberry is in flower. The inconspicuous white flowers are attached directly to the stem of this shrub. Come winter bright scarlet berries will dot the stems and provide food for a variety of birds. A bright blue Eastern Bluebird eating bright scarlet Black Alder berries against a snowy background is a sight worth seeing.
