A smallish brightly colored dragonfly - probably one known as the Rapids Clubfoot - can be seen along the West River. This uncommon species can only be found along large streams and rivers with rocky riffles or rapids.
In the deep grass of my mowing, the warning colors of a rather bedraggled Striped Skunk blazed above the wet grass. Skunks eat crickets, grasshoppers and other large insects, dig for grubs and catch a variety of small mammals, snakes and frogs. They also raid the nests of ground nesting birds and dig out bees' nests.
