The beautifully patterned black and orange butterfly called the Baltimore is airborne. Turtlehead is the preferred host plant for the larvae of this species but other plants may also be acceptable.
Rough Hedge Nettle is starting to open a few flowers. The leaves, stem and flowers of this plant are all very hairy.
Both Blue and White Vervain are in season. There are four blue and the one white varieties of Vervain listed in my field guide.
And, startlingly iridescent Dogbane Leaf Beetles spangle the patch of Dogbane in my mowing with tones of burnished copper, green, orange and red.
