Today Orange Hawkweed is in flower.
An occasional Black Locust flower is also open.
The nest of a Red-eyed Vireo - with a clutch of brown-blotched eggs - made a good photo op. The nest was just 4 feet off the ground on a slender, forked beech twig.
I stumbled into two different clutches of Turkey poults. This one froze just inches from my foot. Then hen turkey did her best to lure me away while the poults stayed in place. A few minutes later I left and when the hen gave her homing cry from deep in the brush the poults rallied to her call. Note the budding wing feathers on this newborn. A week from now it will be flying when danger threatens.
