7-2 White Wood Aster, Spotted Wintergreen, Helleborine

7-2 White Wood Aster - one of 43 asters listed in my field guide - is for many a first hint of fall.
Dry woods are home to Striped, AKA Spotted Wintergreen. These common names refer to the plant's variegated green and white leaves.
The flowers of Helleborine, our only introduced orchid, may be either purple or green tinged with purple. The plant can be found in woods and thickets often in moister locations. John
