Canada Violets AKA Tall White Violets can reach 16 " tall and the back of the petals are purple tinted making it an easy violet to identify.
Acid soils in moist woods and along stream banks support populations of Painted Trillium, another easy to identify species.
Wood Betony AKA Lousewort grows in dry woods and borders. It is said to occur in two colors, yellow or red.
And an Easter Mockingbird was demonstrating his virtuosity from a perch near the West River this morning. Mockers have their own song as well as a repertoire of imitations and will even sing on moonlit nights. They are also notorious bullies of other songbirds including Blue Jays!
